Episode 215: Jessie Baker & Doug Wegner pt.2
Podcast Episode · Ugly Pike Podcast · 2025-01-24 · 1h 7m

If you're looking for some really good tips on pike and musky fishing, be sure to follow the Ugly Pike Podcast, not sure why this is only on Apple.com platform, this should be on Youtube as well too, but I guess they advertise each episode on Facebook as a reminder to everyone, so be sure to Like / Subscribe to them on FB, then you just follow the link to the the clips on Apple.com to listen. You definitely can get burned out being on so many platforms these days, but some really good insightful information on this podcast, they recently had on Musky Guide Doug Wegner, he's always good for a new bag of tricks and tips when musky fishing. They still have a YouTube channel, but only seem to upload a few videos of their "musky" catches. And really what is up with that, where's the pike catches? Kind of strange having a youtube channel with just musky catches when it's called the Ugly Pike Podcast? Maybe should of been called the Ugly Esox Podcast? Ugly Pike definitely has got a better ring to it

Is the pike, also known as Esox Lucius, a more popular species of fish than bass, but anglers don't even realize it....
I think what causes a lot of hatred towards pike here in the States is their stunted size(hammer handles) versus the gigantic size pike they get from European countries like France, Italy, and Germany where they are humongous. Some say it has a lot to do with fishing pressure, I think there's something else going on, maybe it has to do with genetics, the forage, or just the coldness where pike are more likely to thrive in Europe, because further you head up in North America like in Canada where it gets colder, the bigger they get, I think the temperature and weather can very impact how they feed, versus warmer climate like here in Michigan. Sure we have some lakes that produce some 40 inchers, but nothing like this, WoW!!!! European pike are about the same size as our musky here in the States and Canada!
